It's been a while!!!

I've taken some time off from creating sketches (and even scrapping). I've only done a few projects lately and have really missed scrapping. I'm hoping to kick it into high-gear soon. In the meantime, here is a sketch I did for the Design Team over at A Million Memories last year. I hope you like it.

One Page - "Stamp" style

I know, I know. You all have tons of shaped patterned paper that you bought but are afraid to use. Well, here's your chance. You can use it as-is or on another piece of patterned paper or cardstock. There is room of three photos or any elements you wish to use. The "branch" embellishment is inspired by the piles and piles of PRIMA flowers and branches I purchased and are just stilling on my shelf.

So....get scrapping!! And if you want, email me your layout and I'll pick a few to post.

September 2008 Sketches and Design Team Projects!!

I don't know about you but I just love fall. It's still hot here on the East Coast but I'm looking forward to a little cool weather. I love fall colors and that freshness you feel when there is a chill in the air.

And just like that feeling of freshness, here are the fabulous projects submitted by the Design Team. Every month I worry if the sketches are good enough and every month the Design Team makes them shine! I'm am so excited to share their work with you.

I also wanted to let you know there are a few things "brewing" here at PHutch Sketches. First, I will be announcing a Design Team call in the next few weeks. I've had a lot of feedback which told me you want to see even MORE ideas using the sketches. So stay tuned. I'll be posting more details. (Don't forget to enter your email address to receive feeds from this blog. Each time I make a post you will receive it that day in your inbox)!!

Also, this December will mark the TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY of PHutch Sketches. Where did the time go? I'm hoping to have a little celebration, a contest and some giveaways.

~One Page Sketch~

I'm always inspired by the products that are laying on my desk. As you can see, I was inspired by the fancy rubons, chipboard flourishes and beautiful flowers. This sketch has room for one 5x7 photo (or any other size/combination), room for an elegant title and journaling. Add your favorite embellishments and you'll have a personalized layout!

~Two Page Sketch~
For this sketch, I'll admit -- I was thinking ahead to our vacation in Disneyworld! I knew I'd have a ton of photos and would want to scrap them all. I had to find a way to create a layout with lots of photos (without a lot of cropping)!! One this layout, you have (3) 4x6 photos and (4) 4x4 photos. The photo collage is complete with title block. You can add your journaling anywhere on the layout or in one of the blocks. Add your favorite embellishments to match your theme and you are all set!

~Card Sketch~
This month I tried to think outside the "box" (LOL...I know I've been posting a lot of square cards). So this sketch is for a long, vertical card. Notice how Rachel flipped it on it's side for a long, horizontal card. The finished size is 5 1/2" x 9" but you can make it any size. It might even be a fun shape for a bookmark! The simple style can be used for any occasion.

Hello everyone! I hope you are surviving the hot summer (or cold depending on where you live)!!

Below are the AUGUST 2008 Sketches and the Design Team Projects. Again, I am very grateful to my Design Team for working on such inspiring projects again this month. I know everyone is very busy with summer activities.

But first, let me introduce you to an AMAZING designer. She is our guest this month…Katie Watson. Some of you may recognize Katie because she was on the Design Team at A Million Memories. But lately she’s been VERY busy working for 7 Gypsies, Maya Road and Pink Paislee. You can say that Katie has a scrappers “dream job”.

I’m Katie and I call San Diego, Ca. my home. I'm married to a career Navy man and so we have lived all over the country. We have 3 kids and 2 cats. I have been scrapbooking for about 6 years.

My style is shabby chic and vintage. I love to incorporate little vintage trinkets and findings into my work. While I love to create scrapbook pages, I think my heart lies with mini-books, altered pieces and home decor. I was a crafter first and a scrapbooker second. I'm so happy that I can combine the two hobbies together to create special works of art. I love history, genealogy, and old family pictures, so I find myself drawn to heritage work. I've created a special bond with my ancestors by using their pictures and stories in projects, layouts and mini-books.

A great day to me would be me still in my pajamas, a cup of coffee, and a project in front of me to create!!

I can't help it. I'm into circles!! And I thought it would be so fun to have a curved title too!
This layout has room for (3) 3x5" photos (or any other combination of sizes), room for a cute title and lots of room for journaling. Add your favorite shaped patterned paper or cut it yourself. I can't wait to see what you create.

Notice how Karla, Rachel and Lucy flipped the sketch to fit their photos. You can use it any way you want.

~Two Page Sketch~
I have to admit. I had my photos and layout in mind when I made this sketch. Poor Vanessa wanted so bad to play with the big kids. I wanted to show her "looking on" while they played. The large photo is 6x8" and the (3) supporting photos are 3x4". You have room for a lot or a little journaling. A large vertical title balances out the layout.

Notice how Katie used just the LEFT side of the sketch for her layout!

Here's another circle for you. I've been using a lot of chipboard mini albums and one of my favorite from an A Million Memories kit was the large circle album from Scenic Route. That mini album inspired this card. It's 5 1/4" finished (perfect for those 6" square envelopes).

I think the Design Team did an amazing job to make such gorgeous cards!!

JULY 2008 Sketches & Design Team Projects

This month I am so excited to introduce you to a dear friend of mine who is our Guest Designer. Her name is Cassonda Tadlock (aka Sonda). Sonda and I met online quite a few years ago when we were involved in swaps on the Creating Keepsakes Message Board. We stayed in touch (even though I don't think either of us has done a swap in a few years…LOL)!! I just adore Sonda and her work. She's an amazing scrapper, friend and Mother.

Hello!! My name is Cassonda Tadlock (aka Sonda). I've been scrapbooking about 7yrs. Hard to believe! I live in No. California with my husband and 12 yr. old daughter, Baylee. She is a special needs child, which makes life very challenging sometimes. She is the subject of most of my scrapbooking layouts and projects. I enjoy working at her school as her personal assistant and teaching scrapbooking classes at Expo's here in California for Piggy Tales.

I don't know about you but I'm feeling really guilty about not fitting more photos on one page. When I saw an ad by Fancy Pants Designs I was totally inspired. This layout has room for SIX photos! (1) 5x5, (1) 4x3 and (4) 2x2 photos. Or you can mix and match these spots with embellishments. There is plenty of room for journaling and a few spots for a longer title. I just LOVE what the Design Team did with this sketch.

Again, feeling guilty about getting more photos on the page, I created the Two Page sketch with that in mind. For this sketch, my inspiration was adding my favorite patterned paper as a (sort of) focal point. Then, I added a standard 6x4 photo and (4) 4x4 photos. There is room for lots of journaling and nice-sized title. Add your favorite embellishments to complete this layout.

Sorry…another square card…LOL! I'm just in love with square cards and I'm so pleased that the Design Team modified the size and shape to give you even more inspiration this month. For this card, I was inspired by the abundance of chipboard, die-cuts and flowers that I have accumulated. This is a perfect way to use up your stash. I also drew inspiration from my growing stash of border punches and decorative scissors. You can use any embellishment to make this card for any occasion.

If you're like me you take a lot of photos in the landscape mode. Every once in a while you have a special photo that needs attention. This two page layout will showcase your favorite 8x10 photo. Well....it's a little late but I wanted to post a cute sketch that I did for A Million Memories for our NSD Crop Celebration!!! Hope you like it. I also received a sketch from our May Guest Michelle and Design Team Member Karla.

~One Page Sketch~

This sketch has room for five photos and lots of journaling. Add your own favorite embellishments or use butterflies! (The AMM March kit that had lots of butterflies inspired me). There is one main photo which is 4x6". There are four smaller supporting photos (2) 2x2 and (2) 3x3. You have plenty of room for journaling and space for a large title.

Hi! I'm Lucy Edson. I have 1 daughter who was my inspiration to start scrapping 2 years ago. I have been married for 12 years. My artistic background is varied - I love many mediums: stained glass, quilting, fiber art, mixed media & of course scrapbooking. I also teach at my LSS. I am excited to bring my own take to Patti's sketches.

Hi! My name is Elayne Grueber & I live in Michigan with my husband Jim & our four boys (Nate age 8, Josh age 6, Zach age 3 & Ethan age 1). I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and worked in the civil engineering field before my children were born. After my second son was born, I switched careers and am now a stay at home mom - it is a great job!! We are a pretty active family & enjoy spending time outside (hiking, camping, walks, or just playing at the park). I've been scrapbooking for about seven years and absolutely love it. One of my favorite parts about scrapbooking is the journaling - with journaling the layouts preserve not only the pictures but also the thoughts & feelings of the moment. I am excited to be on the design team & work with Patti & her sketches!

Hello! My name is Rachel Hall. I was born; raised, and still reside in Prescott Arizona with my wonderful husband Drew and our beautiful daughter, Roslyn.

I began scrapbooking in late 2001 when my best friend showed me a couple of projects that she was working on. With my head filled with ideas, I went out and bought some supplies and have been scrapbooking ever since!

Throughout my time scrapbooking I have been honored to serve on several online design teams, creating layouts and altered projects as well as writing articles. I am currently residing as the design team coordinator for Café Prima. In 2006, my dream of someday being published came true when I was published in the Memory Makers book, “Imperfect Lives”.

My style varies as I learn and am inspired by new things, but it always remains on the shabby/vintage/girly side of things. I love all things feminine and beautiful and find that I get to do all of that to my hearts content in scrapbooking.

Aside from scrapbooking I am an avid reader and writer, amateur photographer and history buff. You can usually find me with my daughter, doing any one of those things and consuming copious amounts of caffeine!

I am so honored and excited to be a part of such an amazing design team here at PHutch Sketches and look forward to being inspired and inspiring others!

Hi, my name is Hilde Janbroers and I'm a 28 year old SAHM of 2 daughters. I am married to Andries, my lovely DH. We live in the Netherlands in a town called Leidschendam. I started scrapping 1,5 year ago. I never stopped since. I really love all those gorgeous papers and embellishments! My favorite style is vintage. I love lace and beautiful flowers.

If I had to describe my style, it would be, color, layers, texture! I absolutely love mixing and matching patterned paper, and finding unique embellishments!

I've been blissfully married to Paul, my Navy man (been in 12 years!!!), for these past 8 years, and have been blessed to be a Mom for over 6 years now, to 3 wonderful Children; Brendan, who is 6, Alex, who is 4, and Caitlynn, who is one. I have been scrapping for over 6 years now, and I still am as excited, if not more then, with this hobby (way of life, etc), then when I first started. Hello! I’m Christine, and I live with my husband of 17 years, our five children, and a Shih Tzu named Suki. I’ve been scrapping for over four years now. It all started when I was introduced to rubber stamping by a relative of ours five years ago, and I thought it would be a great thing to do with my daughters at the time. Little did I know that it would lead to a passion for card making, scrapbooking (both paper and digital forms), and almost all things paper crafting!

March Sketch LAYOUTS are here!!

Sorry I'm so late this month. It's been crazy busy and I'm just getting back into the swing of things!! I hope you enjoy the sketches this month. Two Page Sketches are back again this month. I slacked off a little over the last few months but two page layouts seem to be popping up in the scrap mags so I wanted to give you a little inspiration!!

~One Page Sketch~

It's time to break out the rubons and stamps for this layout. The three photos are 5.5 x 3.5. There is plenty of room for journaling and a large title. Enjoy!

~Two Page Sketch~

Two page layouts are back. This one has lots of room for photos. The large focal point photo is 5.75 x 7.75 (not counting the mat). The NINE smaller photos are 3x3. You can use the spaces for photos, paper, or embellishments. Again, plenty of room for journaling and a large title. Enjoy!

~Card Sketch~

I love BIG cards. This one measures 8.5 x 5.5 (or one 8.5x11 sheet of paper folded). I'm also inpsired by all of the shaped paper availble so I wanted it on my card this month. Add some ribbon and a flower (or other embellishment) and you're all set. Enjoy!

February Sketches - It's all about LOVE baby!!

Do you love Valentine's Day as much as I do? I'm not THAT romantic but I really do get spoiled by Mike. He usually doesn't spend a ton of money but he always has a nice little surprise waiting for me. I hope you are inspired by these "love-style" layouts. And of course, you can use them for any occasion by replacing the hearts with your own embellishments.

For this sketch you only need 3 4x6 photos, some paper scraps, (heart) embellishments and something for a title. You can add your journaling anywhere or replace one of the large boxes.

The finished size for this card is 8x5" because I thought it would be cool to receive such a huge card. Of course, you can make it any size. And again, replace the hearts and sentiment for any occasion!

WOW!!! I just looked back at my "older" sketches and I've come a long way baby. I have been doing sketches for THREE YEARS now!! Can you believe it? I remember thinking when I saw my first sketch, "Why would someone do that? What would you do with a sketch"? LOL...if only I knew then what I know now.

I hope you are inspired by these sketches. Later this month I'll be adding layouts. Wait until you see what the A Million Memories Design Team did this month....can you say WOW!!! (Ok..that's my new word....I've been using it a lot lately).

~One Page Sketch~

For this sketch I was inspired by all of the gorgeous shaped paper that is on the market. Even shaped cardstock will work just beautifully. There is one 5x7 photo with (5) 2x1.5" supporting photos. There is room for a small title and a cute journaling block. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

~Card Sketch~
Also inspired by shaped paper, this card is perfect for any occasion. The finished size is 5.5 x 5.5 which fits perfectly into a 6x6" square envelope. There is a spot for a simple greeting or any other journaling you might want to add. (I think this would also make a cute cover to a mini album). I hope you are inspired too!

December Sketches

Well....it's that time of year when things get a little crazy. This month, I only had a few minutes to put together a one page sketch and a card sketch. If I get a chance, I'll try to post a two page sketch later in the month. ENJOY!!!

~One Page Sketch~

This sketch is perfect for that one special photo with a smaller space for an accent photo or other special memorabilia. There is room for journaling and a long title, which wraps around the smaller photo. You can add your own embellishments but I decided that birds are hot so I went with the bird. Don't you just love it!

~Card Sketch~

I thought it would be fun to keep the card sketch simple so that you can use it for your holiday cards. I'm sure you have plenty of scraps and leftover embellishments taht would work perfectly where the small accent circles go. Finished size: 9x4".

Well....it's been a busy season so I only have a one page sketch for you this month but I do have lots of layouts from my SCRAP START Design Team friends at A Million Memories. Enjoy!!!

This sketch is perfect for your favorite 5x7 photo and (6) 2x2 supporting photos or other embellishments. You have plenty of space for journaling and a cool tag makes up the title.

I just love how Kimmi used all photos on the sketch and how Michelle used patterned paper to fill the 2x2 squares. I made a digital layout and used elements from Erica Hernandez's Phonetically Phloral line from 2peas. And don't you love how Amy creatively flipped the sketch on its side to suit her photos?

Thanks to everyone who emailed me to make sure I was ok. I just took a little break from the sketches for August and September. It was just VERY busy around here (and I was enjoying the pool with the kiddos)!!

So....I hope it was worth the wait. Here are your OCTOBER 2007 sketches!! Make sure you email me if you did a layout and want me to post it here. There may even be a RAK involved!!!!

~One Page Sketch~
I made this one page sketche for the Premiere Issue of the A Million Memories Newsletter. Make sure you check it out to see what the AWESOME Design Team did with it! I was inspired by my SCRAPS for this layout. You can use all sorts of patterned paper or ribbons here. You can use flowers or any other embellishment. There is room for (1) 5x7 photo and (2) 3x3 photos. The journal box is also big enough for your writing or a cool poem. ENJOY!!

~TwoPage Sketch~
It's been a while since I actually USED a two page layout. This one is PERFECT for pictures I have of Vanessa (check back later this month for the actual layout). Again, you have room for some of your favorite patterned papers. There is (1) 5x7 (or larger) photo as the focal point and then (3) 5.25 x 3.5 (approx) supporting photos. There is a LONG title which goes across both pages to add balance and tie it all together. A small journaling block near the focal point adds interest. I didn't put any embellishments so I can't wait to see what you add to this sketch!!

~One Page Sketch~
This may not look like much but I can't wait to see what you create. I made a card similar to this with lots of scraps and a large quote sticker. I hope this inspires you and I can't wait to see what you do with it. Finished size 5.25x5.25.

This is a fun layout with three photos, a large title and strips of journaling. The circles can be embellishments, patterned paper or more photos. Have fun!

~BONUS - One Page Sketch~
Another FUN sketch. This sketch was inspired by the A Million Memories - Extreme Boy kit (using Junkitz paper) but it can be used for any cool patterned paper. There are 3 large photo blocks, a large title, journaling strips, and lots of layering of your favorite paper. Enjoy!

~Two Page Sketch~
This layout is based on a very old sketch I did for a contest at The Scrapbook Site. On the left side there is one large photo with a large title to balance it. The layout is balanced with three photos and matching journaling boxes on the right side. Add your own flair with patterned paper and embellishments. Or maybe even digital!!

~Card Sketch~
This sketch is similar to the June sketch except I replaced the sections with circles. You can do what you want but my inspiration came from all of the transparency projects I've been seeing. I think I'm going to pull out some stamps and transparencies for this one!! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

~One Page Sketch~

This sketch may be a little challenging for you this month. The circle is approximately 9 inches and holds a collage of photos and journaling. You can lay out your collage in your photo editing software or just crop them to fit. The upper left section is approximately 5x7. You can fill all of the sections with photos, patterned paper or journaling. There is room for a good sized title to balance the large circle. You can add anything you want to the corners. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

~Two Page Sketch~

This two page sketch is perfect for all of those 4x6 photos you have. I think I'm going to use it for all of the Disneyworld pictures I have just waiting to be scrapped!! There is room for 6 photos or journaling. Add your favorites scraps of patterned paper and finish with a simple title to make this a fabulous layout!

~Card Sketch~

This card sketch is ideal for using up your scraps. The finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 which is just an 8.5x11 sheet of paper cut in half and folded. Add three scraps, a piece of ribbon or patterned paper and your sentiment and you are finished!

One Page Sketch
This sketch can be used for those index prints you have thrown in the drawer. The main photo is 6x6 and there is a strip of index prints 1 x 1 1/4 inches. Lots of patterned paper layering, fun accents and room for journaling. (Your title can go anywhere you want it)!

Two Page Sketch
This simple, yet elegant sketch has room for 4 (6x4) photos. Or you can combine any of the spaces for larger photos. Just a touch of patterned paper and photo corners added to enhance the page. There is room for a large title to balance the patterned paper and photos. Journaling can be added directly to the photos or right on top.

Card Sketch
When I made this sketch I was thinking of something pretty for Mother's Day AND because of May Flowers! There are lots of options here: Large die cut flower, stamped flower, silk flower, chipboard, or handcut. Small, individual spaces are provided for your sentiment or journaling. Finished size is 5.25x5.25 to fit into a square envelope. (This would even make a great layout)!

One Page Sketch #1This sketch was inspired by my love for TAGS and for my new Fancy Pants Stamps. You can purchase them here The photo size shown is 6x4 but you can use any size.I think I'm going to use a large tag in place of the horizontal rectangle below the photo. I can also see the large corner embellishments being made with large stamps, rubons, or fancy patterned paper.Flower embellishments are from the Jessica Sprague's CK Free Digital Kit.
Two Page Sketch #1
This sketch has three standard size photos. One 4x6 and two 6x4. It also has room for two smaller photos (2.25x2.25) or an embellishment. There is plenty of room for journaling and a nice size title. You can use your imagination when creating the background with cardstock or patterned paper.

Card Sketch #1This card is just in time for Easter, a Spring Wedding or any other occasion. The finished size is 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 (or a half sheet of 8 1/2 x11 paper). The half circle is 2 1/2" and is set just above a small strip of patterned paper or ribbon.

This is Vanessa wearing her CowGIRL Boots!! I had a ton of pics but I just loved the one with her sitting and looking "dreamy". She also had her hair pulled back which she loved (but it's no my favorite way).

March has really come in like a Lion in this part of the country. But it didn't stop me from creating some new sketches. Sorry they're late....I've been a little busy getting some layouts done for a little something I'm working on!!

One Page Sketch #1

This sketch has room for three photos! One 6x4" photo and two 3x3" photos. There is room for journaling and a title. Grab your favorite rubons or doodling pens to create the amazing corners! (The swirls shown are from the Rhonna Farrer New Year's Kit (Dec 2006) at 2peas).

Two Page Sketch #1
This two page sketch has room for 5 photos. Three are 6x4" and two are 4x6". Of course you can combine any of the blocks for a larger photo! There is room of a cool title too. Circles are in so take advantage of the open space and use it for patterned paper, embellishments, stamps or even journaling.

Card Sketch #1

This card sketch was inspired by one of my layout sketches. (I think it was August 2006). It's a 5" square card with a 4 1/2" circle accent. Add your sentiment and it's ready for any occasion.

Call me crazy but I had a ton of ideas this month. I had lots of requests for multi-photo sketches. I also think Valentine's Day inspired me with some "heart" style sketches. Have fun...and check back for some layout inspiration!! I can't wait to see what you create!!

This one page sketch was inspired by all of the scraps that are left over after many projects. So, get out those scraps and have fun. You can also journal on the strips. You can add any kind of stitching (machine, pen, or even rubons).

One Page Sketch #2
This one page sketch was inspired by the new Bazzill Heart Shaped Cardstock. I thought it would be cool with a large photo or several small ones "coll aged" together. Again, you can use up your paper scraps and have fun with some stitching on pen work. There is also a place for some journaling strips.

One Page Sketch #3
This one page sketch popped into my head when I saw that a lot of people were asking for layouts with 4x6 photos. I take a lot of pictures in the landscape mode and something in the vertical. There is room for a good sized title, journaling and use of your favorite patterned paper. (**This patterned paper is from a 2peas Digital Kit by Anne Langpap...one of my favorites!)

Another two page layout with multiple photos. This layout has one large focal point photo and several smaller accent photos. There is room for journaling, a large title and your favorite stitching, rubons or pen work. (**This patterned paper is from a 2peas Digital Kit by Anne Langpap...one of my favorites!)

Two Page Sketch #1
This two page sketch highlights a favorite photo with supporting photos as accents. There is a lot of white space which adds elegance. A large title balances the large focal point photo.

There is a RAK involved with this sketch. If you can tell me what this looks like, you will win a prize. And YES...that is what inspired me to create this sketch. There is room for two large photos, a title with journaling, and even a sub-title if you wish.

Card Sketch #1
It's time to start thinking of Valentine's Day! Here is a quick card for you to make. (Of course you can use any theme and letters). So grab those stamps, rubons, or stickers (use up those extra X's and Q's (cut off the tail)). You can print a love quote on your printer or use Valentine Ribbon or Twill.

Card Sketch #2
I'm still on that Valentine Theme as you can see. I thought of the collection of heart-shaped embellishments, stamps and die cuts that I have. I think they would be cute with glitter, diamond glaze, as ghost shapes, die cuts, painted, and distressed. The sky is the limit.

Card Sketch

This sketch is made from a card sent to me by my friend MichelleS. It was the cutest card so I had to share the sketch with you. I hope you like it. (The closed size is 4"x4").

One Page Sketch

I had a lot of fun with this sketch. The main photo is 4"x6" and the three supporting photos are 2.5"x5". The large circle is 9.5". You can use anything for the circles but I think I'm going to use some of my Autumn Leaves (foofala) buttons!

Two Page Sketch

I just love this sketch. It can be used for anything but I wanted to make a layout that included photos from an entire year. Each photo is 2" wide but varies in height from 4" to 6". You can use ANY title and embellishments.
